Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe

Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe

The great thing about living in the Bay Area, and the Sacramento region, is the proximity to multiple adventures in one day. We live just about an hour and a half from Lake Tahoe. Which means, we can go play in the snow in the morning, then head home, and girls can ride their bikes in the sunny 60-70 degree weather in the afternoon.

For Christmas 2012, my six-year-old daughter asked Santa for a sled. Since there wasn’t much snowfall Christmas of 2011, we made sure to take advantage of the snow this winter. Our favorite spot to go sledding is Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe. It is located between Sierra at Tahoe, and Heavenly at Tahoe on Hwy 50. While both these resorts have tubing available, at Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe you have the price advantage, and the opportunity to use your own sleds. For just $20 to park, you can spend all day sledding down the 13 snow runs, build a snowman, make snow angels, or have a snow ball fight. There’s also a lodge that sells typical lunch food, and hot cocoa. The lodge also has bathrooms you can use, which is especially nice, if you’re like me, and aren’t fond of those portable bathroom facilities that are closer to the sled runs.

I love sledding with my girls!

Start with three snowballs…while it’s sunny

Finish with a snowman… and snowing conditions, in the space of a half hour.

If you don’t have a sled, no problem. Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe rents two-person sleds for $10 a sled, inner-tubes for $20, and snow shoes with poles for $18, all with a required security deposit. All rentals are for the day. If you’re a winter birthday, the lodge also has a birthday room. For $80 you get a party room for two hours, and parking is included for one car. The kids can sled all day.

Snowing!

I was not compensated to write this post. This is a location we feel fortunate to have found so close to home and Lake Tahoe. We hope you have as much fun sledding and feeling like a kid with your kids as we do with ours.
