But there is so much more to do at White River State Park! Here is a list of 5 MORE things to do this summer at the White River State Park.
1.Double Feature at IMAX Theater
Penguins 3D just opened at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum. I love taking my kids to IMAX movies because with two wiggly three-year olds, 45 minutes is just perfect for their attention span. I love that they get to learn about nature. We just saw Penguins 3D and it’s a story about a family with exciting moments and funny moments. My kids are still telling anyone who will listen all about the elephant seals. You can take in a double feature since they are also showing Island of Lemurs: Madagascar this summer. It’s a perfect pairing. For shows and ticket prices see https://www.imax.com/oo/imax-indiana-state-museum/
2.Take an Art Walk
Have you explored the Historic Old Washington Street Pedestrian Bridge yet? The Old Washington Street Pedestrian Bridge is full of art sculptures. We found a gem there on our last visit with kids that made the perfect photo opportunity. If you’re headed to any attractions on the East side of White River State Park, we park at the Indianapolis Zoo and take a walk across the bridge for fun. You could plan a color or shape scavenger hunt for your kids before your walk to make it into family game.
3.Ride a Surrey with a Fringe on Top
Your whole family can jump on a surrey bike and ride around White River State Park. This is great for the entire family. Plus, you get to ring a bell and share the work of pedaling. These bikes cater to all ages (with adult supervision) and provide helmets and locks with rentals. See more information on bike rentals at Wheel Fun Rentals.
4.Search for Fossils
The White River Promenade is a little hidden gem. It’s a walkway behind the Indianapolis Zoo. It’s beautifully lined by huge 300 million year old limestone blocks from Indiana. Do a fossil search with your kids in this shady spot next to the White River. They’ll be amazed. Take along some paper and crayons so they can rubbings on the rocks. It’s a fun, free activity you can do on your own.
5.Go to a Summer Concert
I’m a firm believer that music is better live. And in the summer, you need to make sure that you go to one of the concerts at White River State Park. Downtown Indianapolis comes alive with this concert series. It is such a fun date night in a great atmosphere. See the line up here: The Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn Concert Series at White River State Park.
