But the Tulalip Resort Casinoisn’t just any old casino. If you are into ‘titles’ it’s a AAA-Four-Diamond-rated Washington luxury resort casino. My husband and I absolutely love going there for very special occasions, and if I’m really lucky, I can finagle an overnight stay. But first things first…
For the most fabulous dining, impeccable service and serious Valentine’s Day ambiance, the Tulalip Bay restaurant is the way to go. We’ve been there a few times and I mean few, because it is a little pricey but absolutely worth it. You are immediately greeted by staff and a cozy fireplace in the waiting area.
With a reservation, you are promptly seated; the walk to your seat is even more fantastic as you pass the magnificent Chihuly glass-blown chandelier hanging from the ceiling in the wine room. The food is amazing, and the waitstaff are extremely knowledgeable. Before the main course, your server brings a palette cleanser (I know, right?) of pineapple and cognac that is flambéed at your table. That’s right, a portable range is brought to your table and the dish is prepared right before your eyes. I’m a simple soul, so this amuses me every time.
If this is a little hard for your wallet (after all, you need gambling money), my second choice is Cedars Cafe. We like to sit in the booths because of the intimacy; they only seat two. The cocktails are amazing. I remember the mojito because if you don’t do it right, all you will taste is mint and mine was perfect. We loved the food and the portions are very generous.
After a fabulous dinner, you have several entertainment choices. We aren’t gamblers…I think it’s a waste but hubby likes to put down $20 on the slots just for fun. We aren’t into playing the table games, although we do like to watch. If you are into that, those options are plentiful. The magic (for me anyways) is dancing the night away.
At the Canoes Cabaret you can enjoy a variety of music styles from 70’s funk, 80’s new wave, Motown and R&B favorites, to frequent classic rock performers tributes to energy filled performances of today’s hits. If you are heading there Valentine’s Day night (Thursday) you will have the immense pleasure of enjoying the cover band, The Afrodisiacs. The 70’s come alive when they hit the stage in their authentic disco costumes and cover hit songs from all your favorite era bands. They are a regular fixture there, so we’ve had the pleasure of doing the hustle to a fabulous performance of wait for it…The Hustle.
Check out mpulse Lounge if you are into the latest in hip-hop, Top 40 and the occasional 80’s flashback songs. It’s a real club, y’all, complete with a dress code, underdressed ladies and people stepping on your feet. I like to go, but then I feel so old…and tall. When the weather is clear, sitting out on the patio next to the giant heating lamps and fire pit is heaven. It’s the best spot to be especially if inside the Lounge is hot and crowded. If you can swing it, spring for a VIP booth.
And if you can really swing it and stay overnight or for the weekend, the hotel is gorgeous…you walk into the lobby and are greeted by this large Tulalip carving…the walls and even the carpeting are covered in weaving and artwork masterpieces.
The last time we stayed was in a king room similar to this one…and this is considered low-end. I know, right? According to the website, no room is smaller than 500 square feet. The suites are crazy bananas, and one day, I’m going to stay in one of those rooms…probably when my kids are grown and we’ve paid everything off…on my 50th wedding anniversary. You didn’t hear this from me, but the large shower, way big enough for 2, with adjustable wall jets set a very romantical mood…
Are you sold? I know, Tulalip is a bit of a drive if you are in the Seattle area…but the Seattle Premium Outlets are right next door so at least you can have more than one reason to trek out here. It would be a wonderful way to spend Valentine’s Day or whoop it up that weekend, a lot of people won’t have work on Monday for President’s Day.
