This weekend, we enjoyed our 4th visit to the Santa Train in Boulder City. Just a hop, skip and a jump from Las Vegas (about a 35 minute drive) is the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City. Each year, my Mommy Club buys a group of tickets and we enjoy the train and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and their elves!
This Saturday was super cold and can you believe it, it snowed! For about 5 minutes, lol! But we had a ball and the kids, young and old, loved it. I put in my request for the iPad Air, and Santa said with a twinkle in his eyes, “Keep working!”
Ah, well, I had to try!
So cold, but fun!
Afterwards, we had breakfast at the Railroad Casino and Hotel, the longest operating casino in Nevada. I’ve always wanted to go and to tell you the truth, it didn’t disappoint! We had a yummy, diner-style breakfast. The food was fresh and hot and served quickly and our coffees were kept full! I walked by the “Steakhouse at the Pass” and the menu looks both old school and delicious. It has a small room, open 24 hours, called the Heritage Room, that gives a bit of history and has some old pictures that are really fun. If you happen to be passing by, why not stop for a cup of coffee and a little bit of Nevada history?!
I highly recommend the Santa Train! Here’s how to get there –
Take US-93 south toward Boulder City. After passing the traffic light at Veterans Memorial Drive, proceed 0.7 miles to Yucca Street (just past the Taco Bell). Turn left onto Yucca Street. The train station for the Nevada Southern Railway is on your right. Parking is available adjacent to the station.
Departure times are – at 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm
Boarding begins 15 minutes before departure (the line often begins forming at least 30 minutes before departure) and gets very busy, so definitely make sure you are on time.
I also heard rumor of the possibility that they will be doing a Polar Express type of event on December 21st. Buy your tickets in advance! For ticket information, call Kate at 702-486-5006.
