Enjoy the festivities, and joy from visiting Northern California’s only American Girl store.
I was invited to the soft opening for the American Girl Store in San Francisco with my daughters. We brought along friends who are ardent fans of the dolls. I’d never had an American Girl doll, and my daughters hadn’t had one either. That all changed on Wednesday at the American Girl store.
Let’s just say, Christmas came early for my girls.
I must confess, I’ve fallen in love with American Girl, after years of resisting. What is it about miniaturized things for dolls, done with such care and detail that just makes me melt?
Plus, I’ve never had a doll that looked like me. Watching my girls find dolls that look like them just hits me right in my heart.
While the San Francisco American Girl store (in Palo Alto) is smaller than other locations, it has the Doll Hair Salon, Bistro, Creativi-Tees, and all the entire American Girl product line. It’s fun just browsing the displays. My daughters were running around with their friends “oohing” and “ahhing” over all the darling displays. I guarantee you, all they want for Christmas is anything from the American Girl store.
I do think that American Girl really needs to expand their Doll Hair Salon to include little girls. My daughters would love to get their hair done, sitting next to their dolls. Frankly, while they’re at it, give the moms a chair too. Can you imagine? If you build it, I will come.
Festivities for the grand opening on both Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17 will include:
- All girls in attendance on Saturday (11/16) and Sunday (11/17) will receive a free gift.
- There will be free craft activities available in the mall on Saturday and Sunday.
- There will be live entertainment for guests waiting in line and in the mall, including face painters and balloon artists
- American Girl will also have Drawings for a Saige doll (valued at $110) on 11/16 and 11/17.
The American Girl store has been open since Wednesday, Nov 13. So if you want to beat the crowds, you still have Friday to visit, but they only open until 2pm, so they can prep for the Grand Opening Saturday and Sunday.
American Girl has also designated Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford as its grand opening benefit partner. American Girl is providing funding to the hospital for various children’s programs.
**The earliest people can begin to line up is 7am on Saturday (for 9am opening) and 8am on Sunday (10am opening). No overnight camping is permitted.
