Tucked into the neighborhood between 15th and 8th Avenues NW, it is already a popular gathering place. There’s a pea patch, lots of lawn space and a pretty impressive playground considering the small size of the park.
Many of the play features are familiar, such as a small sand area, slides for toddlers and big kids, and climbing structures. A pair of silver arches hung with enormous basket swings are the most unusual part of the mix. They look like saucers you’d use for sledding down a hill. Kids and parents alike have already been piling into them alone and in giddy groups.
Other expected features include a trellis, rain garden and skate dot.
The date for the opening celebration is Saturday, August 11 from 10:00 am to noon. There will be an official dedication and all sorts of family fun.
Until then, go check it out, if only for those crazy swings. Try packing a lunch and going midday when activity settles down a bit.
