Elevate Coffee: Fact or Fiction?

I was introduced to Happy coffee in January of 2019. My friend and mentor had started selling it and, honestly, I thought she had lost her ever-loving mind. She’s a super-smart businesswoman and I really couldn’t picture her selling anything called “happy coffee.” I mean, isn’t all coffee happy?

But she explained, a bit sheepishly, that she had lost over 30 pounds on it and was feeling great. That simple act of taking her daily D.O.S.E. (a combination of the coffee and a supplement pill called Xanthomax) had changed how she felt, gave her more sustained energy throughout the day, and had helped curb her cravings which, in turn, led to weight loss. I totally respected her, but happy coffee? Come on.

About that same time, I was really struggling with some winter doldrums that made me grumpy, unmotivated, and wanting to sleep all the time. There was a lot going on and exercise, which usually helps stabilize my mood and balance out all the things, just wasn’t cutting it.

So, since HAPPY is a positive emotion, I was intrigued. And, let’s be honest, the weight loss aspect was looking kind of attractive too, because Christmas cookies and homemade bread had become permanent residents in my kitchen.

But I was also skeptical and kind of felt bad for my friend that she had just gotten sucked into some scam where she was now peddling tubs of coffee. So, I bought some – and when it came I put the box it came on right on top of my refrigerator because I knew I would be returning it before the 30 days were out. Let’s just say that I was not approaching smart coffee with an optimistic attitude. At all.

I’m getting ahead of myself though. Let me explain what smart coffee actually is.

What is Smart Coffee?

According to the Elevate website, “Elevate Smart Coffee is a great tasting micro-ground, functional coffee that contains a proprietary blend of Nootropic ingredients. Nootropics are all-natural amino acids, choline, and fat burners typically found in protein-rich foods but not always easy to get from diet alone. Nootropics are designed to assist with mental clarity, memory, and energy. So when you need a boost, get “elevated” with Elevate Smart Coffee.”

Annnd that’s awesome, but what are nootropics? Nootropics are “natural or synthetic supplements that boost mental performance.” ()

If you’ve ever had caffeine in a soda, tea, cup of coffee, or energy drink, you’ve had a nootropic. Caffeine, l-theanine, omega-3 fatty acids (hello, fish oil pills), and more are examples of nootropics.

So, do they work? There have been some small studies that show that they do, but no long-term studies to prove their efficacy. There have been studies that have shown that caffeine can improve your mental clarity and focus for the short term.

D.O.S.E. (the coffee and the Xanthomax combined) gives you four key hormones that are associated with happiness – dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins. In other words, it elevates or raises those hormones in your body to make you feel, well, happier, more content.

As Elle Woods said, “Exercise gives you endorphins; endorphins make you happy and happy people just don’t shoot their husbands!” Only in this case, coffee gives you endorphins.

Smart Coffee Ingredients

Okay, so what exactly is in smart coffee? I loved the idea of it giving me more energy and focus, but I’ll be honest that I was really hesitant to ingest it. For me, there’s a huge difference between buying shoes online and buying something I have to eat.

When I originally purchased my first few months of Elevate coffee there was an ingredient in it called Juglans Regia Extract (walnut plant) that was removed when the FDA told all companies using it to remove it from their products. You can read more about it in this pharmacology journal article. ()

So, Elevacity, the company, complied and removed it from their products. The new Smart Coffee ingredients as of October 2019 are:

Premium Coffee Blend, Sunflower Lecithin, PEA (Beta Phenylethylamine HCI), Organic Cocoa, Griffonia Simplicifolia Extract, L-Theanine, Caffeine, Kucha Tea Leaf Extract, A-GPC (Alpha-Glyceryl Phosphoryl Choline), Bacopa Monnieri Extract, Green Tea Extract, Green Coffee Bean Extract, Cocoa Bean Extract (as Cocoabuterol), Chromium Polynicotinate, Xylitol, Natural Flavors, Organic Rice Concentrate

It has 10 calories per serving,1 gram of carbohydrates, and 8mg of Niacin (Vitamin B3).

You can research each ingredient if you’d like – I did – and I feel comfortable with all of them.

Smart Coffee Review: Did SAD Change to HAPPY?

Alrighty, now back to my experience and happy coffee review.

The first week I tried D.O.S.E. (the Elevate coffee and the Xanthomax supplement), I experienced a noticeable difference.

I felt calmer, more even keel. My energy was sustained throughout the day – even through that 2pm-3pm slump that I got every day. My mood was stable and those happiness hormones were pumping out a happier, more patient me. It made me a better business owner, a better mom, a better wife, and a better friend because it made me a better me.

That extra energy also made it possible to put in more focused workouts. And it helped me try intermittent fasting which I found is awesome for me.

I was also exceptionally thirsty when I first started taking it. I joked that I could have worn one of those beer hats on my head and swapped out the alcohol for gallons of water. That all evens out though.

Look, I know it sounds like the most far-fetched, crazy product out there – coffee that can make you happier and help you lose weight. I get it. I really do.

All I can tell you is that it works for me. It made the rest of the winter not only bearable but I was happy and in a good mood. Those moments of not feeling great were simply….gone. Happy coffee made me happier.

Smart Coffee Weight Loss

I’ve talked about how smart coffee made me feel, but what else did it do? Well, it drastically curbed my carb and sugar cravings. Which I know sounds too good to be true, but it did. I found myself no longer even interested in the box of cookies or the loaves of bread.

As I’ve been on it now for almost 9 months, I can attest to the fact that it still does curb those cravings. I used to gobble down bread like it was going out of style and now I usually pass.

I’ve heard of people losing over 50 pounds and others losing nothing. For me, it helped me lose 6 pounds which is good but not as much as I had hoped. Life also got crazy stressful and I stopped exercising for a few months, so that didn’t help.

I’ll be starting my new workout routine (a yoga, weight training, cardio combo) November 1st and can’t wait to shed some of these pounds before the holidays. I’ll be adding some Zest, the newest citrus powder, to my day to help with that too.

The Verdict on Smart Coffee

Everyone is different and no two people may have the same results, but for me, Happy Coffee is a staple. I have seen such an improvement in my mood and overall wellbeing that I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

I like having stable energy throughout the day without feeling jittery. I like feeling happy and like I can cope with whatever comes my way. I like knowing that I can do all of that without having to take medications.

So, for me, Happy Coffee is a definite win.

Is Smart Coffee a Scam?

The definition of a scam is “a dishonest scheme; fraud”. I know it sounds like it must be because coffee shouldn’t be able to make you happier, give you energy, and help you lose weight, but in my experience, that’s exactly what it does. So, my answer is no, smart coffee is not a scam.

For me, happy coffee has been a lifesaver.

How to Order Happy Coffee

So, you want to give it a try but aren’t sure how to order it. No problem. You can click here to go to iHeartHappyCoffee.com to check out all of the products, read through ingredients, and really take a look at the different options.

I recommend starting with the Smart Coffee and Xanthomax, also known as, D.O.S.E. I have found the best results on it when the two are combined.

If you're not a coffee drinker or need a decaf version, try the D.O.S.E. versions with Choclevate (the decaf chocolate version) or Zest (the new citrus drink). Both have all of the same properties as the coffee, but with much lower doses of caffeine.

What if I Don’t Like It?

If you don’t like it, you have 30 days in which to return it. The company has to have it back within those 30 days, so send it back before day 22 or so.

They’ll issue a full refund of the purchase price (not shipping) even if you’ve tried the product – which is really the only way you’d know if you didn’t like it, right? So, there’s no risk. If you don’t like it, get your money back.
