Thanksgiving Bible Verses to Share

Most families say a traditional Thanksgiving prayer before they dive into their dinner, but mostly to honor God and thank Him for their meal. This year, try something different, and along with saying Grace, consider reading a few Thanksgiving Bible verses as well.

It’s important not to forget who made it possible for the family to be together, and reading Thanksgiving Bible verses is a great way to reinforce the importance of God on Thanksgiving day.

Thankful Bible Verses

Here’s a list of some Bible verses to consider reading on Thanksgiving day to the family:

Psalm 69:30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

Psalm 75:1 We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds.

Psalm 95:1-6 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst

1 Chronicles 16:34 Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love will endure forever.

Colossians 2:6-7 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Jesus Christ.

Fun With Thanksgiving Bible Verses

When reading Bible verses, it doesn’t just have to be one person standing up reading a single verse; you can make it fun and truly enjoyable for all! The sad truth is that many kids don’t like to pay attention, but making it almost like a game can draw them in to be educated by the Bible! Here are a few ways to make it fun:

Trivia: Make a short trivia game for the family to answer aloud when called upon. Start a Bible verse, then have multiple choice answers with the lines the correctly complete the verse and some that sound like they could.

Draw from a hat: Write a few Thanksgiving Bible verses on pieces of paper, and pass a hat around the room with the verses in it. Each person reads the verse that they picked from the hat.

Illustrate: Are you an artist? Well, rather than simply reading the chosen Bible verses, illustrate them in a slideshow or on poster boards on an easel! Many people are visual learners and can pay more attention when pictures are involved!

The Bible is full of verses about giving thanks to the Lord because He is the one we should be thanking for each and every good thing in our lives. Always thank Him!
