The summer is a great time for different activities to try out with your family. You will want to pace your family or else everyone will get worn out which is not fun. Keep your kids busy but make sure they are not overbooked with too many activities.
Below are several different things you can do to keep your kids active during the summer:
Summertime is the time to go outside because it is not freezing and there isn’t snow on the ground. This allows you to have some free time away from or with your kids. If there is a local park they can go play there with their friends.
You can also take them on hikes and to different places within your community. Visit local museums and have them learn a little bit about the history of where you live. You can also schedule days where you go to the zoo or an amusement park. Biking and other sports can be done in the morning or evening when it starts to cool down.
Keep Yourself Cool
Depending on where you live, the summer can reach scorching temperatures. If you or your kids are outside for too long you risk getting heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Being warm and hot is not the greatest activity so you will want to keep everyone cool.
Get some passes to your local swimming pool or you can opt for getting a swimming pool in your backyard. You don’t have to have a big, in-ground pool, you can get one from the local grocery store that will provide hours of fun. You can also make cool treats that will help you and your family beat the heat.
Make Fun Experiments
Whether you decide to start that science project early or make your own lotions and lip balms, there are a lot of crafts to do during the summer. The recipe provided below is easy to make and fun for kids but does require some adult supervision.
A great homemade lotion recipe is to add 2 tablespoons of grated beeswax, ½ cup of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of cocoa butter together and melt it. Next add 2 tablespoons of vitamin E and your choice of essential oils. There are a lot of essential oils companies and why doterra shows the transparency of their process. Next, in a mixer add your ¾ cup of water and the combined ingredients. This will want to be done slowly to create an emulsion. After pour into a container of your choice and let it set. Set Some Goals
This is a great time to sit down and talk with your kids about what they would like to do during the summer. Maybe they have found some activities in books or on Pinterest that they would like to do.
As the parent you can also set some more serious goals with them such as doing summer homework or making sure that they are still doing their chores throughout the summer before playing with their friends.
Keep Their Brains Alert
It is always nice to take some time to relax and go on vacation but you also want your kids to learn throughout the summer. If they are not learning and just sitting on the couch all summer the first couple of weeks back in school can be extremely hard and frustrating.
Make them read for a certain amount of minutes each day or sign them up for a community summer reading program or class. This will keep them learning about new things so they don’t forget everything they learned in school.
There are a lot of different activities that can be done at home with your kids. Sometimes the activities can become a little messy but provide your kids with fun filled summertime memories. What were some of your favorite activities to do as a kid? Share this with a friend who has their kids with them for the summer!
