Having a new baby is exciting, scary and challenging all at once but is the most rewarding experience you will likely ever have. There are so many things to think about when planning for your new baby, you have to have the baby room ready, you need all of the clothes and everything else that comes with it ready and waiting for you when you get home. These times can be stressful while also exhilarating because you're eager to meet your little one but nervous about how it might turn out and you never want anything to go wrong. That is why I compiled a list of Five things to remember when planning for a new baby.
- Pack extra clothing suitable for the weather
Whether it's spring summer fall or even winter you still want to pack enough baby clothes to cover your bases. You never know what the temperature will be like in the hospital room, and then when transporting baby you may actually want something lighter on them so they can easily and securely be strapped into their car seat. The hospital will of course provide you with a new baby blanket which will be great for taking your little one outdoors even if it is rather chilly. If you want to also pack an extra blanket made of fleece fabric that would be a good idea as fleece is particularly warm and will make your baby feel comfortable the whole ride home.
- Leave your home tidy
I know things get stressful when you first discover your in labor but if you can plan ahead it would be a good idea to make sure you leave your home tidy before you go to the hospital to have your child. The last thing you need when you come home from a stressful, yet exciting trip to the hospital and have your newborn baby in hand is to come home to a mess. As your due date gets closer try to just keep a clean and tidy house that way if the unexpected occurs you are more than prepared for that arrival.
- Decide what you want to feed your baby
After you have the baby nurses and doctors and not to mention other family members will all be in your ear about what you are going to do about feeding the little one so it's important you already know what you want to do and what is best for your baby. It's your baby and your decision as to whether or not you will breastfeed so if you know ahead of time that you want to stick with formula, make that decision and then prepare for it as well. Talk to your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough for breastfeeding.
- Bring comfortable shoes
One thing most moms don't think about is shoes and what they need to wear when preparing to head to the hospital to welcome your new baby. The floors in the hospital are extremely cold and uncomfortable to feel underneath your bare feet so it's important to bring along some slippers or some really comfy socks that will keep you warm and comfortable during all those trips to the bathroom.
- Make a Financial Plan
It's no secret that kids are expensive so when planning for a new baby it's absolutely crucial that you have a financial plan in place to prepare for your newborn. You want to remember childcare expenses, formula if your bottle feeding, bottles, clothing and all of the other many expenses that come with a new child. Make sure you have money set aside for emergencies and things that you just can't plan for.
During this exciting time it's important to stay prepared and be ready for your newborn baby so when the time comes, you can sit back and enjoy your little bundle of joy.
