5 of the Most Important Health Needs for Kids
Childhood is rough and can be even more rough if your child is constantly sick or struggling. This doesn’t mean that your child will not get sick or have health problems but you can help make your child’s life a little easier and healthier. As your child grows up they will have the necessary skills and tools they need to live a healthy life whether they choose to go to college or start working. As a child your children will not have the right knowledge or skills to help care for themselves and that is where you step in as the parent. A child has some different needs than a grown adult so you may need to adjust your expectations when thinking about a child’s health.
Here are five things any child will need to get a healthy start at life:
Some parents may find it hard to get their children to sleep every night. It be more than hard and it can feel like a full on battle trying to get your child to get in bed and stay in bed. The best thing to do is to set up a bedtime routine so your child knows what to expect. Try different activities and approaches to a bedtime routine. Not every child will find the same bedtime routine effective.
It is never too early to worry about your child’s mental health and how they are handling growing up. There are different ways to see how your child is doing mentally but the best thing you can do is teach your child different techniques to communicate effectively and express their emotions in a healthy way. If your child struggles with anger management or is constantly getting sent to the principal you can always think about seeing a therapist who works with children.
Your child needs to eat healthy if they want to grow up healthy. If you kid is a really picky eater you can supplement their nutritional needs with drinks that your trusted medical professional can recommend. Another big aspect of nutritional health in kids that is often overlooked is their gut health. Just like you as an adult need probiotics your child’s health can take off when they get the probiotic benefits from their diet.
The largest organ in the human body is skin. This means that your child’s body is going to need some tender loving care so it can grow strong and healthy. There are things you can do as a parent to make sure your kid has great looking skin. This does not mean that you will stop them from having acne breakouts as they reach their teenage years but it will help them understand the importance of having a good skin routine. Sunscreen needs to be applied liberally when you are out in the sun, not just at the swimming pool or beach. Kids will not know the importance of putting lotion on but you can start making a good habit of applying lotion to your kids when they have dry skin or after they take a bath.
Kids are packed with a lot of energy and can be so tiring and exhausting some days. But as children get into elementary school and into some older grades (think 4th or 5th grade) you may find that your child is not as active as they used to be. This can be for a number of different reasons such as video games, computers or just lack of interest in sports. This does not mean that you need to change your child into a future professional athlete. Having them be active could be something as simple as going to a yoga class or walking around the block and having some quality time together.
