10 Fun Ways To Keep the Whole Family Entertained This Summer

Loretta Jane

It can be difficult to find activities that everyone in your family will enjoy. Your children may be far apart in age and have different interests, but it is still important that you do things together as a family. You may be looking for budget activities that will still allow you to create memories, too. Whatever your plans are for the summer, be sure that you consider these ways to keep the whole family engaged and entertained.

1. Have a Movie Night

Friday night can become family movie night. Let each member of the family pick something that they would like to watch and alternate weeks. You can get movie theater snacks and make your own popcorn. You can rent a movie or even splurge and go to the theater together.

2. Have Themed Dinners

If you are a family that likes to spend time in the kitchen, consider trying out some different cuisines. Each member of your family can choose a country and prepare an ethnic meal to share with the group. This can be a fun way to try out some new recipes while getting everyone involved.

3. Host a Family Vacation

It can be a lot of fun to get away for a few days and relax. Ask your spouse and kids where they want to go for vacation, and brainstorm ideas together. Within reason, you may be able to take a road trip and visit multiple places on one trip.

4. Have a Bonfire

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to spend time together, consider building a campfire and roasting marshmallows and hotdogs. You can tell ghost stories or just sit around catching up on the good times.

5. Have a Pool Party

Between summer errands like doctor visits to Beverly Hills MD, it is important that your family takes some time to relax. Go to the community pool and spend the day just splashing around together.

6. Volunteer Together

There are few things more rewarding in life than giving back to someone who is in need. Consider volunteering your time together as a family. Each member can choose a cause that they are passionate about and get the whole family involved in it.

7. Go Hiking

Physical exercise has many benefits, and outdoor exercise has even more. If your family is the adventurous type, consider going on a nature hike together. You may be surprised to find what stunning nature views are close to your home.

8. Have a Picnic

Nothing says summer quite like an outdoor picnic. Pack up your family's favorite foods and find a nice open spot for a relaxing picnic. Take the family dogs with you and let them run around and get their exercise while you bond as a family.

9. Exercise Together

If you are members of a gym, go together so that you have an accountability partner. Sign up for gym classes together. Challenge each other to find new exercises that the whole family can benefit from.

10. Have a Game Night

Family game night can become a household tradition. Let everyone have a turn at playing their favorite board game. You can make finger foods for dinner and have a casual night at the dinner table. Games like Scrabble, Monopoly, Sorry, Pictionary and Twister can be exciting ones to play with the whole gang.

Planning summer activities for your family can be something to look forward to when you get creative with your ideas. Ask each member of your household what he or she would like to do this summer, and be sure that everyone's interests are involved in some way. When you all branch out and try new things together, your bond as a family becomes closer and stronger. Instead of putting too much emphasis on having the perfect activities planned in the perfect way, just enjoy the time that you are able to spend together.
