The 2 Dollar Movie Night/Video And Board Game Challenge

The 2 Dollar Movie Night/Video And Board Game Challenge

As we are getting close the winter, the nights are starting to get colder, darker and more miserable so you and the kids are going to be stuck indoors a lot more. Well, you do not have to be bored or even have to go out and spend a ton of money to have family fun. We have three different “fun” family nights that we like to do on a Saturday and I want to share them with you.

The 2 Dollar Movie Night Challenge

This is the most basic one that we do. Where we live we have all kinds of cheap stores that sell DVD’s for 1 or 2 bucks. The idea is that each kid gets two bucks to go and pick a movie that they feel the whole family will enjoy. You spend a few bucks on movies, a few bucks on snacks and you have yourself a family movie night that is far cheaper than going to the actual movies. Plus it is always pretty amusing watching the kids try to pick a movie that they feel the whole family will enjoy. What is even more amusing is watching them pick a movie that they just want to watch and then trying to justify to the other kids and us why it is great for the whole family.

The 5 Dollar Video Game Night Challenge

Video games do not have to be as expensive as you think. Playing video game is something that brought me and the step kids closer together. We took our 2 dollar movie night challenge and made it the 5 dollar video game challenge. We do this in one of two ways. First is that the kids have to work together to pick a game that we can all play as a family. In this case, we will usually stretch to around 10 bucks. But sometimes, we will give them 5 bucks each and say that it is up to them how they spend it. They can either get one game for 5 bucks or see if they can get a couple of cheaper ones. Most thrift stores and flea markets have video game vendors that offer games for dirt cheap, that is where we will usually do this.

The 5 Dollar Boar Game Night Challenge

Yes, people do still play board games! Again using a thrift store or a flea market. We will give the kids 5 bucks each to go and pick a board game for the whole family to play together that night. It is up to the kids what game they get and if they want they can get a couple of games if they are cheaper or they can put their money together to get a more expensive game.

Saturday Or Sunday Is Best

We will usually do this on a Saturday or Sunday, we will go to the store or flea market in the morning and then watch the movies or play the games at night. It is a fun way to spend a day together and it can be far cheaper than going away for the day or even going to the movies.
